Why become an Accredited Site?

The gold standard for any workplace in the program is to become a MATES Accredited Site.

Achieving accreditation means your site has met key targets that show a genuine commitment to the mental health and wellbeing of workers.

Once accredited, the site will receive:

  • A Certificate of Accreditation - ideally presented at a site gathering
  • The ‘MATES Accredited’ logo for use on all communications
  • On-site corflute signage to proudly show your team - and everyone who visits - that this site takes mental health seriously

Being part of the MATES program helps create a safer, more productive, and more supportive workplace. Accreditation is more than a milestone - it’s a statement that mental health matters here, and that every worker counts.

Your local MATES Field Officer can help achieve accreditation on your work site.

The accreditation process

01

80% GAT Training

At least 80% of your workforce needs to complete General Awareness Training (GAT) - a straightforward, 45-minute session that introduces the basics of suicide prevention and helps workers understand the role distress can play.

02

5% Connector Training

At least 5% of your team should complete Connector Training. This half-day course gives workers the skills to recognise when someone might be doing it tough and how to connect them to the right support.

03

Access to 1 ASIST Volunteer

To achieve MATES Accredited Site status, your team should also have access to at least one ASIST-trained volunteer. These workers are trained to safely support someone who may be thinking about suicide and help them develop a plan to stay safe.
