Fly the Flag Week 2025: South Australia Stands Together for Mental Health in Construction
During Fly the Flag Week 2025, more than 111,000 workers across 915 sites proudly flew the MATES flag, turning construction red, white and black in a powerful show of unity for mental health and suicide prevention across Australia.
In South Australia, worksites from Adelaide to regional communities joined the movement, raising the MATES flag high as part of a national initiative that shines a light on the importance of mental health support, connection and care in the construction industry.
From early morning flag raisings to BBQs and toolbox chats, crews across the state showed up to back their Connectors and ASIST-trained volunteers; the people on the ground who notice when something’s not right, start the conversation and make sure their mates aren’t facing tough times alone.

Throughout the week, the MATES in Construction SA team visited sites, shared conversations and celebrated the power of mateship and community support. Each flag raised was more than a symbol; it was a reminder that we’re stronger together — and that a simple check-in with a mate can change the course of someone’s day, or even their life.

Fly the Flag Week remains one of the most significant moments on the MATES in Construction SA calendar, reinforcing that mental health support in South Australia’s construction, mining and energy sectors is more important than ever. Every conversation helps break down stigma and build safer, stronger workplaces across Adelaide and beyond.
Thank you to every workplace, crew and volunteer who stood with us during Fly the Flag Week 2025. Together we’re building a culture of care, connection and mental health awareness across South Australia — and reminding everyone that suicide prevention starts with a conversation.
