SA leads rollout of Blueprint for better mental health in construction.

MATES South Australia is proud to lead the implementation of the Blueprint for Better Mental Health & Suicide Prevention — a national, industry-endorsed program designed to help construction companies create psychologically safe, supportive, and resilient workplaces.

As MATES South Australia takes charge of this important initiative, they will work closely with local builders, safety professionals, and industry bodies to embed psychosocial safety into everyday worksite practice with the goal that every worker returns home safe — both physically and mentally.

Why the Blueprint Matters

The Blueprint is more than a document — it is a proven, five-pillar framework developed by the industry, for the industry. Supported by research and built collaboratively with major industry associations and mental health organisations, the Blueprint provides practical guidance for businesses to:

  • Promote work’s positive impact on mental health
  • Reduce harmful impacts at work
  • Build mental health and suicide prevention literacy
  • Support early intervention and treatment
  • Provide return-to-work and ongoing support

By helping companies identify and manage psychosocial risks, the Blueprint strengthens WHS compliance, improves workforce wellbeing and retention, and build a stronger, more resilient workforce.

South Australia’s Leadership Role

South Australia has a strong track record in advancing workplace mental health — and now MATES SA is leading the rollout of the Blueprint across the state.

Through this leadership role, MATES in Construction SA will:

  1. Conduct Blueprint audits and facilitate People At Work Surveys with local companies
  2. Provide hands-on guidance to help embedBlueprint actions into safety, HR, and communications processes
  3. Partner with industry leaders such as Lendlease and key associations to drive sector-wide awareness and engagement
  4. Share success stories, impact data, and best practices across South Australia and nationally

Get Involved

If your organisation is ready to make a meaningful impact on workforce mental health, the Blueprint provides the tools and support to enhance team wellbeing, demonstrate leadership in safety, and align with psychosocial safety legislation.

Whether you’re just starting to explore psychosocial safety or ready to lead from the front, the Blueprint offers a proven way forward — Contact MATES in Construction SA to sign up for Blueprint.
